Pavelko: Together with Zelensky, they decided to resume the championship of Ukraine in August

We are talking about the Premier League, the First and Second Leagues, as well as the women’s championship

President of the Ukrainian Football Association Andrey Pavelko reported that all football competitions in Ukraine will resume in August.

Pavelko admitted that the decision was made after talking with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.

“I spoke with our President Volodymyr Zelensky about the importance of distracting people with football. Everyone, from children to the elderly, is focused on the war. Every day they receive information about the dead, about the consequences of the war,” Pavelko said in an interview with The Associated Press.

“We talked about the fact that football has a very big power to help people think about the future, because right now people are naturally not in the best mood. They are in the worst mood. We said maybe football would help us start thinking about the future.”

“Therefore, together with the President, we decided to resume the championship of Ukraine in August. In Ukraine, we will play at all levels, including the Premier League, the First, Second League and the Women’s Championship. At all levels we will start in August. The decision was made jointly with the President of Ukraine.”

“I informed Aleksander Čeferin and Gianni Infantino that we will resume the championship of Ukraine under martial law, under bombs. We count on their support. We are discussing the details. We will discuss with our military council and government how to organize everything safely.”

Last football season in Ukraine was ended ahead of schedule due to the full-scale Russian invasion, which continues for the 101st day.
