The Briton lost to the Ukrainian champion by split decision
Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that the former world champion Anthony Joshua showed a good performance in the second fight with the holder of the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO titles Oleksandr Usyk.
“I think he did very well against Usyk in the second fight. Still could have done more but after nine rounds I thought he was winning the fight. And then Usyk was incredibly closed and was great.”
“But Anthony felt it was a disaster, and I keep telling him, ‘You did everything right. You lost 115-113 to the number one in the weight class. Forget about the first duel – the tactics were wrong. And you could still do more.”
“I still consider him one of the top three heavyweights. If you add Deontay Wilder to this list, it will be the top four. Because it really is Fury, AJ, Usyk and Wilder. You have Joe Joyce who could be in the mix. But his best win is Joseph Parker. So we have to keep an eye on him.”
“But AJ, don’t be hard on yourself. You are still one of the best in the world. But he doesn’t want to be one of the best in the world, he wants to be the best. And we’ll see where he’s up against Franklin.”
Joshua lost to Usyk in August in their second fight by split decision. The Ukrainian retained the WBA / WBO / IBF / IBO titles, which he took away from the Briton in the first fight in 2021.
The first fight after losing to Usyk will take place on April 1 at the O2 Arena in London. His opponent will be Jermain Franklin.
