André Mazzuco lamented Botafogo’s defeat in the Carioca Championship and addressed the crowd after the team was left out of the semis: “We need to have resilience”

André Mazzucofootball director Botafogospoke about the Carioca Championship and sent a message directly to the fans. The manager opened the game after Alvinegro’s defeat to Portuguese-RJ in the last round of the group stage, which took the team out of the possibilities of playing in the semifinal of the competition.

“It is my duty to be here to first apologize to our fans who have been on this journey since we started it”scored Mazzuco. “It’s a very frustrating moment for us because it differs from what we imagined for this Carioca. It is a feeling of the athletes, directors, technical commission, of the John [Textor]… We need to reflect on why it’s not good and we have to keep working to get out of this situation”.

The director added: “We have to remember that if we had won the derby against Basque we would practically guarantee qualification for the semifinals and it was a breaking point. There was that episode in the game against Vasco, then against Flamengo and had the game against sergipe, but it’s football, it’s a moment when we need to be resilient. It is a moment that everyone needs to work on”.

In addition, Mazzuco highlighted the moment Glorioso is going through: “O Botafogo It’s a club that is going through restructuring and it’s not just in football. It’s not just a process in football, it’s in the whole club, but our final process is in football. Making it clear that we are all looking for the necessary solutions, we have some gaps that we need to fill”.

Even so, the manager nailed that the qualification for the semis of Carioca should have been achieved, despite the circumstances. “The club still needs to structure itself, it is a whole process that is at the beginning. We are aware of this and this is an apology. With all due respect to the teams we faced, but we should have qualified, yes.”he said.
