Madrid “Real” announced on its official website that it would withdraw from the Union of European Football Federations (UEFA) procedure of limited compensation for fans who did not reach the Champions League final against Liverpool (1-0) in May 2022.
The match took place in Paris at the Stade de France. Fans were locked in and gassed with tear gas near the stadium. Because of this incident, the start of the match was delayed by 36 minutes. On Tuesday, UEFA’s press service announced that it would reimburse the cost of tickets to affected Liverpool supporters. The compensation will receive 19,618 fans of the English club. According to the first American estimates, UEFA will pay almost 3.4 million euros.
Real Madrid believe UEFA is directly responsible for what happened near the Stade de France. The measures proposed by UEFA were deemed insufficient by the Madrid club. Therefore, in the near future, Real Madrid will create a service for supporters, which will help to assess the damage and request compensation from UEFA.
