BBC to bring Lineker back on air this weekend after being suspended for social media posts

Former England international television pundit Gary Lineker will be fired at the BBC after being suspended for social media posts, SkyNews correspondent Rob Harris tweeted.

Earlier, Lineker, commenting on the UK’s Illegal Migrants Deportation Bill, compared those measures with German government rhetoric in the 1930s. The ex-footballer was suspended from the airwaves indefinitely. BBC. Football coverage in England was then cut over the weekend due to strikes triggered by Lineker’s suspension. Presenters, pundits and commentators ditched BBC football coverage to support a colleague.

Gary is a valuable part of the BBC and I know the BBC means a lot to Gary. Looking forward to its return to our pre-game studio this weekend,” said CEO Tim Davey.

Lineker himself also reacted to this decision.

“After a few difficult days, I am happy to report that we have succeeded. I want to thank you all for your incredible support, especially my colleagues in the BBC Sports Department for a wonderful show of solidarity. Football is a team game, but their support was overwhelming. I have represented sport for the BBC for almost three decades and am immensely proud to work with the best and most honest broadcaster in the world. Can’t wait to get back to match of the day headquarters on Saturday,” Lineker tweeted.
