The Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) is discussing the format of its first championship between men’s teams, in which Russian team Ruslan Sulaymonov, head of CAFA’s international department, told .
Earlier, Tajikistan Football Federation press secretary Faridun Saliev told about the Russian national team’s participation in the tournament. The CAFA Championship will take place from June 9 to 21, 2023.

“Negotiations are underway with interested parties, the format of the competition is being discussed,” Sulaymonov told .
The six members of the Football Association – Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan – have confirmed their participation in the CAFA‑2023 championship among national teams. CAFA has also invited one of the Asian teams to participate in the new tournament.
At the end of December, the RFU’s executive committee raised the question of the organization’s possible transition to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Later, together with UEFA, it was decided to create a working group, the purpose of which is to draw up a roadmap for the rapid return of Russian teams to international tournaments.
