Russian Premier League (RPL) director of marketing communications Anton Fetisov told that after learning that the national team will participate in the inaugural Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) championship in June, no one contacted the league about the postponement of the last round of the Russian championship.
“No one has contacted the league about a possible postponement of the last round,” Fetisov told .
The 30th round of the WORLD RPL will take place on June 3. Earlier, Tajikistan Football Federation press secretary Faridun Saliev told that Russian team will participate in the CAFA Championship, which will be held from June 9 to 21, 2023. Teams from Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan will play there. CAFA has also invited one of the Asian teams to participate in the new tournament. As the RFU communication service told , the organization is discussing the possibility and conditions of the Russian team’s participation in the CAFA championship.
Also on June 11, during the CAFA tournament dates, Luzhniki will host the final match of the FONBET Cup of Russia 2022/23.
At the end of December, the RFU’s executive committee raised the question of the organization’s possible transition to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Later, together with UEFA, it was decided to create a working group, the purpose of which is to draw up a roadmap for the rapid return of Russian teams to international tournaments.
