Gavi had his new contract with Barcelona annulled by La Liga after legal imbroglios that prevented the bond from being put into practice by the club
The contract renewal between Gavi and the barcelona was denied by Spanish Championship after the Catalan club delayed the registration of the new bond by one day. With that, the midfielder returns to receive the salary he had before, wearing the number 30 shirt and can sign with any club for free.
The new contract was annulled by the spanish leaguefirst because the stipulated salary value for the player exceeded the spending ceiling of barcelona and furthermore, the appeal requested by the Culés was made one day after the deadline for records, making it impossible for the renewal to be completed and thus extending the bond between the parties.
One barcelona court still tried to make the renewal of the contract take effect, because if Gavi leave the barça for free, it could cause irreparable damage to the club, whether due to technical or financial issues, since at 18 years old, Gavi is seen as a jewel that can pay off for the Catalan club.
With the annulment, Gavi’s current contract is the one signed when the midfielder was part of the club’s B team, thus, the wage of the player will be reduced drastically, to the value that a youth of the base receives, and the duration limited until June 2023. Behind the scenes, Barça believe they will not lose Gavi in the window for free.
