Léo defended Capasso and minimized the defender’s mistake after Vasco’s defeat by Flamengo in the Campeonato Carioca; see details

Leo opened the game on the error of Capasso during the defeat of Basquefor the Flamengo. The defender from Vasco da Gama defended his teammate after the Argentine missed the ball and gave the Pedro the attacker’s opportunity to turn the match around and put the Rio de Janeiro team ahead. Even if this happened, the alvinegro captain made it clear that the group is united and will not blame collective results for individual mistakes.

According to Léo, Vasco’s squad has no intention of harming its members, on the contrary. The defender from Vasco da Gama wants to keep the squad in order to keep all the players together for the second leg of the Carioca Championship semifinal. The defender even praised Capasso and tried his best to minimize his defender’s mistake.

This group here, when one makes a mistake, they don’t have to blame. There’s no one here. It’s everybody united, everybody together. He’s a great defender, he came to help a lot. It happens. It’s not Capasso’s fault. There’s no culprit. Work continues in the same way. We gave him a lot of morale, he is a great defender and will adapt more and more. There’s no one to blame here, it’s everyone in the same boat“, he stated.

Mauricio Barbieri, on the other hand, did not ease up on Capasso’s side…

The bid interfered because it was decisive. The idea is not to play at any risk. We can’t give up and just play for a long time. Flamengo had a way of scoring that offered some spaces, this was not the case. We think that Capasso ended up making a wrong decision, I didn’t talk to him afterwards, but he felt a lot“, said the coach of Vasco.

Even so, Barbieri revealed that he left a warning for his cast: “What I did was ask the team for peace of mind, it’s 180 minutes, we couldn’t get emotionally unbalanced. We come back balanced, we draw, but we get a goal on the dead ball. In the end, due to the changes I made, Flamengo created more opportunities, we ended up exposing ourselves a little. Then he even came back well, made cuts, aerial dispute. But it turned out to be a decisive move for the result“.
