The defeat from Wales did not allow Petrakov’s team to reach the 2022 World Cup
Midfielder of the national team of Ukraine Alexander Zinchenko spoke about the defeat in the game with Wales (0:1), which deprived the team of a ticket to the World Cup. According to him, the blue-yellows controlled the game and gave all their strength to the field.
“I can’t describe my emotions. I want to thank everyone for the support, we felt it. I am very proud of all Ukrainians. There were many Ukrainians near the stadium, who, unfortunately, could not get to the game. I am very proud to be Ukrainian. Today, all the players gave their strength on the field. We created a lot of chances that we couldn’t convert and the Wales goalkeeper was great. When the goalkeeper becomes man of the match, it means that the second team was in control of the game. I can’t say that we deserved to be defeated, ”Zinchenko said.
“This is football. We hope that all our major victories are yet to come. And the most important victory will be the victory over evil and Russian aggression. The rain did not bother us, the weather was the same for both teams. I cannot say that we were inferior to Wales tactically or technically. I hope that Ukrainians can be proud of us. Of course, this is not the result we wanted, but we continue to work on our main victory. After the goal we conceded, we believed in ourselves, I knew that we would create chances, but the goalkeeper was at his best.”
“I didn’t see the Yarmolenko moment on replay. So I can’t say anything. The players in the locker room after the first half said it was an obvious penalty. The referee told Yarmolenko that there was a foul, but that foul was not enough for a penalty. Communication with the referee? The Welsh played for a very long time. It is necessary to communicate with the referee on the field, because he is a living person. There are no emotions. But we have no right to give up, to give up. Our nation never gives up. We need to show the world that we are a very strong nation.”
After the game with Wales, Oleksandr Zinchenko was recognized as the “Lion of the Match” – the best player of the match in the Ukrainian national team.
Already on June 8, the Ukrainian national team will play against Ireland in the League of Nations. The meeting will be held in Dublin and starts at 21:45.
