The European Parliament took up arms against Belarus. More than a hundred representatives sent an official letter to the Union of European Football Associations.
The parliamentarians demand to exclude the Belarusian national team from the qualifications for the European Championship 2024.
According to the authors of the document, human rights are violated in the aggressor country, and the participation of the national team in the European tournament will be used to promote the regime of the self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko.
“The very fact of the participation of the Belarusian national team in the tournament under the auspices of UEFA will later be used by Alexander Lukashenko and his propaganda team to prove that he is well received in the international community. This will be an insult to the people of Ukraine and all Belarusians who were forced to flee their homeland, as well as those who remained in Belarus and must now live in fear,” the text of the letter was reported by Politico.
It will be remembered that the national team of Belarus was entered into the draw for the qualification for Euro 2024. The team entered the qualifying group I, where Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Kosovo and Andorra became its rivals.
