Alexei Poddubsky confirmed his resignation as head coach “SKA-Khabarovsk”, and also explained why the contracts with a large group of players were not renewed.
– The contract with you was not renewed? There is no information about this on SKA club resources.
– They told me – they didn’t even tell me, but I called the press service: they will announce in 2-3 days when they find a new head coach, – the correspondent said quoted Poddubsky.
– SKA-Khabarovsk had a great spring segment, went up in the common area. What do you think – did you get the most out of the team or is there a feeling of annoyance?
– Of course, from the last game in the joints with Khimki there was a feeling of annoyance, we did not achieve a result, but there were objective reasons for this. And so, I think me and my coaching staff worked with dignity, accomplished the minimum task. What no one believed in. Moreover, in such conditions… Coming to the team, I knew they were going to withdraw me. Nevertheless, the team believed in our ideas, that we could achieve the RPL.
– Was Fomin’s card loss in the second leg against Khimki fatal, given that you had previously lost three centre-backs? The experience of transferring Kvekveskiri to the defense did not really justify itself.
– I agree, Fomin is an important figure in the defense, he missed him. Ukrainian Grachev, due to well-known events, left the training camp in Turkey: he entered, apologized, said goodbye. He wanted to stay, but you understand everything yourself. Big thanks to Levitsky, he played five games with pain in his knee joint, he just couldn’t go on. And Denisov was injured in the oblique muscle of the abdomen, he has been treated for a long time. They are all central defenders.
And yet the main reason for what happened in Khimki, in my opinion, is different. When we arrived in Moscow, the guys were already thinking about other teams. The agents arrived at the hotel, negotiations began. When the match started, I realized it would be difficult to get a positive result. It was no longer the same team.
– How come the vast majority of SKA-Khabarovsk players finished the season without a contract extension?
– A month and a half before the play-offs, I myself discussed with the players with whom we wanted to extend the contracts, they were all favorable. But then the sporting director changed, new bosses arrived. The man said: the sports part will be his sphere. If we extended these players, it would be logical. They would prescribe that if they enter the RPL, their conditions improve. But we weren’t allowed to do that. Naturally, players began to consider other options. Although since the players have Premier League invitations it means we have worked with the technical staff and the lads with dignity. Emerson has already signed with Ural, Gongadze with Fakel, and that’s not the limit: three or four more will go to RPL clubs. In the winter window of Premier League proposals, no one had done it.
– Emerson told me that you changed the training process when you accepted the team at the end of February after Sergey Yuran.
First of all, thank you guys for all your hard work! Yes, we have rebuilt the training process. I discussed with the players: they worked on a monotonous mode. There was no stamina, no speed. When I gave them a single charge, literally 15 seconds, they were barely breathing. They did not do it. Gradually they began to work in this direction, introduced exercises with a purpose. Before that, in 40 days, there were two or three such classes – I don’t know, maybe these are new trends that make goalkeepers unnecessary in training?
– Not only sports director Sergei Sharonov was removed from the club, but also general director – Alexei Kandalintsev. De jure, his contract expired on May 31, but everyone in the team already knew everything.
— I would like to thank everyone with whom I have worked, for the atmosphere that has reigned in the club all these years, for the professionalism – both the management of the club and the players. We had a tight-knit team. And we knew they were going to take us out for a month and a half. Can you imagine the state we were in? Permanent nervous tension. We told the guys: don’t pay attention, we’re doing our job. But how was it not to shoot? When you are not trusted, when you are named and. on. and you are looking for a coach? It was all very difficult. Although we have nothing to be ashamed of.
– Now intentions – to take a break?
– I haven’t been tired for 3 months, I’m ready to work. There are already proposals. I consider either FNL or FNL-2 for the task. All the staff are with me. Only Yury Shpiryuk remained in SKA-Khabarovsk. And good luck at the club! I don’t know how everything is going to turn out, I hope it gets better,” Poddubsky said.
Under Poddubsky, the army team took 4th place in the FNL and lost in the play-offs against Khimki (1:0, 0:3).
