Avaí fans chanted homophobic phrases in the last match against São Paulo, valid for the Brasileirão; Santa Catarina club broke the silence
Hawaii and Sao Paulo faced each other in a match valid for the 9th round of the 2022 Brazilian Championship, last Saturday, 4th. However, the confrontation between the teams was not the only milestone on the field: the fans of the Santa Catarina team led homophobic chants during the dispute, aimed at Anderson Daronco.
the supporters of Hawaii shouted “gaucho faggot”, in direct mention of the referee. Daronco stopped the game, which was in its last minute, and only resumed the duel when the verses were interrupted. The prejudiced attitude was recorded on the scoresheet of the match, which may result in punishments for Leão da Ilha.
CHANNEL – ATHLETISTIC:
In a note, the Florianópolis club spoke about the case: “AVAÍ FUTEBOL CLUBE records, initially, that it strongly condemns any type of discrimination or acts of a prejudiced nature. The club, through its Board of Directors, athletes and fans, condemn such practices and that is why the club is constantly engaged in raising awareness and communicating with its fans and visitors.”
The statement further said: “Avaí’s fans are nationally recognized for their strength and the beauty of their great parties in support of the team. It is not necessary to use any homophobic or discriminatory chant, and for that we apologize to those who somehow felt embarrassed”.
In conclusion, Azurra scored: “For this reason, Avaí Futebol Clube, which has already addressed the issue through its social networks, sound systems and screens in the stadium, will intensify and work even more so that acts of discrimination are definitively eliminated from Brazilian and world stadiums. Everyone deserves respect and that’s what makes football such a passion. The same passion we have to have for respecting others”.
