Shakhtar’s head coach Igor Jovićević summed up the match against Feyenoord (1:7) in the second leg of the 1/8 finals of the Europa League.
According to the specialist, his wards did everything to get a positive result, but it didn’t work.
“One team is better than us, and that is Feyenoord. We have to congratulate Feyenoord on a good game. There are days like that, this is football. Recently there are examples of both Manchester United and Leipzig. At least we scored a goal, but they didn’t even score, So the best teams lose.
This is a day I have to go as a coach. And I want to apologize to the Ukrainian fans who are counting on us, for today’s passing. Unfortunately, it turned out to be such a match. I have to draw many conclusions, for which I will take responsibility as a coach without hiding behind this result. But we gave it the maximum strength we had today. The guys just gave it their all.”
Jovićević said the opponent punished every mistake.
“It was not enough and it was evident in every single battle – we were punished for every mistake. That was the deciding factor. a penalty – it was too psychological for us to stay in the game all the time.
This is the first experience for us, the tenth match in the current European season, the Champions League and the Europa League. There are also key matches for the pass: with Celtic, when they left the group, then they beat Rennes. But today we got the best team, where everyone flew to the gate – everyone flew. And we have to give credit because Feyenoord is the top team right now.”
