According to former goalkeeper David James, Arsenal’s Ramsdale has one of the funniest pre-match rituals he’s ever seen, and there’s no way to explain the athlete’s motive
David Jamesa former goalkeeper who played for england national team and the fifth most active player in the history of Premier League, revealed in a comment that he has been noticing goalkeeper rituals before and during matches. According to James, one of the most striking was that of ramsdale, goalkeeper of Arsenal and who lives a great season.
One of the funniest things I saw this season came from Aaron Ramsdale. He touches the crossbar several times until the beginning of the game. I thought I saw it last season and confirmed it when I saw Arsenal play recently.”
“He always holds the crossbar until the game starts. I was at the Emirates, the players kneel (protest against racism) before the game, and I saw him drop the crossbar, kneel and hang on the crossbar again, directly, until the ball rolls.”
According to David James, there are several cases of strange rituals that seem to work for players on the field. Once it works, the athlete will repeat that for believing that will bring luck or premeditate some action during the game. That way, it’s a way for players to feel more confident when they enter the field.
“He must do it for personal reasons and Arsenal are at the top of the Premier League but players have a tendency to repeat anything that works before a game so you can’t argue against him doing that.”
