The legendary Togolese striker has announced his retirement from professional football.
Emmanuel Adebayor has announced his retirement from professional football. The striker, who recently turned 39, no longer sees the motivation to participate in the field and has decided to hang up his boots.
“Through all the ups and downs, my career as a professional athlete has been an incredible journey. Thank you to my fans for being by my side every step of the way.
I’m very grateful to everyone and I’m excited for what’s to come,” Adebayor was quoted as saying by The Athletic.
Recall that the former Togo national team striker began his professional career in French Metz, from where he moved to Monaco. Then there are the English Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Crystal Palace, as well as Real Madrid.
In 2017, Adebayor moved to Turkey, where he defended the colors of Basaksehir and Kayserispor. In 2020, he moved to Paraguayan Olympia, and his last club was Togolese Semassi.
In total, during his career, Emmanuel played 593 matches, in which he scored 207 goals and 63 assists. He was recognized as the best football player in Africa, but among the titles he only has the Spanish Cup.
We remind you, another legendary football player, Gareth Bale, recently announced the end of his career as a player.
