“Matvienko has a serious offer from England, but we did not abandon him: first, we believe that he is worth more, and secondly, he is the leader of Shakhtar and the Ukrainian national team, he is the future of our club and national team,” – said Shakhtar sports director Darijo Srna.
Nikolay Matvienko is a student of the Donetsk club. The defender made his debut for Shakhtar’s first team on August 22, 2015 in the Ukrainian Cup match against Arsenal Kyiv (3:0).
So far, he has 157 appearances in the orange and black shirt, where he has recorded 7 goals and 12 assists.
