Gustavo Alfaro refers to the Byron Castillo case a few days after the resolution: “There will be justice in all aspects”

The Ecuadorian national team coach is calm days after FIFA’s decision. In a press conference, he assures that his mind is not fixed on the footballer’s situation, but on the World Cup in Qatar.

A few days after FIFA’s resolution regarding the Byron Castillo case became known, in Ecuador they continue to express their calm. They are convinced they are right. Or at least that’s what they’re trying to prove. Proof of this is that during the last meeting of the French cast, Gustavo Alfaro, his coach, brought in the footballer in the second half. Now, in the preview of his side’s friendly against Mexico, the Argentine strategist has once again brought up the subject.

“We are very calm, we know how we did things. We complied on time and in form,” the former Boca Juniors coach told reporters.

The decision will be made next Friday. Ecuador and Mexico play this Sunday and Byron Castillo is likely to meet again for a few minutes. “When a legal case was open and there were things that weren’t resolved, we couldn’t take any risks. At the time of integrating Byron into the team, we were convinced that there was no risk and there is none”, he underlined.

A few days ago, in conversation with Jock Carlos Manzur, vice-president of the Ecuadorian federation, avoided delving into the matter, however, he assumed that it is something that will last longer than expected, given a possible complaint to the CAS, a once the decision is known. “The problem is at FIFA and that’s where you have to express the arguments and wait for a resolution (…) Surely there will be an appeal and then to the CAS,” he said.

Despite this, for Alfaro, everything that happened in the last month is nothing more than ‘noise’ and maintains that they are already thinking about the World Cup. “We focused on the work and the preparation of the team. We had the standings where it needed to be earned, inside the peloton, and we got it right.”

Of course, the coach didn’t want to settle the matter there. He also spoke of the consequences that the case had for Byron Castillo himself. “I am worried about the damage they are causing to him. I have no doubt that there will be justice in all aspects and an apology is not enough for me,” he said.
