Euro 2024 qualifiers: England beat Ukraine to top Group C

Striker Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka scored the triumphant goals for the Three Lions, who got off to a perfect start with two wins in as many games played.

Another victory was won this Sunday by the England national team after beating their similar team from Ukraine 2-0 at Wembley Stadium in London, match corresponding to the second date of the group C of the phase of qualifying for Euro 2024 .

As expected, the hosts – who had just beaten Italy on Matchday 1 – put pressure on their rivals from the start, although they lacked the lucidity to turn that supremacy into goalscoring opportunities.

This way, only a few opportunities featuring Harry Kane (20′ and 25′) managed to put a little danger on the goal defended by the goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin .

For its part, the yellow team remained withdrawn on its ground and only bet on a counter-attack exit; however, this strategy has taken its toll in the 37th minute after the Tottenham striker opened the scoring after connecting a measured cross from Bukayo Saka in the middle of the penalty area .

The score was the clean and jerk the hosts needed, since just 180 seconds later (40′) the Arsenal player himself stretched the numbers with a long shot that crept into the top right corner of the Ukrainian goal .

At the end of the first leg, Kane could have scored the third but his shot was caught by the foreign keeper, so the two actors went to rest with the partial 2-0 .

In addition to those led by Gareth Southgate they kept control of the game, even though they ceded control of the ball to a yellow team who, despite their attempts, failed to cause concern in the opposing area.

In this sense, The Three Lions seemed satisfied with the result and let the minutes pass against a team that was very imprecise and unable to cause danger in the goal kept by Jordan Pickford . Despite this, in the final stretch, the owners of the house came back into the limelight and could well score again.

In this way the duel closed with 2-0 reached in the initial fraction, result which allows England to add their second victory in two games and momentarily take the lead in Group C of the competition .

For its part, Ukraine – which had its first match this Sunday – remains in fifth and last place without units .

At the next date -which will take place in June- Southgate pupils will have to travel to Malta, while their rival this Sunday will again be an outsider, this time against North Macedonia. .
