Petrakov: Lunin, Ignatenko, Popov, Sikan will play against Ireland tomorrow

The players who played against Wales got the day off

Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Alexander Petrakov spoke about the players who will play tomorrow in the Nations League match against Ireland. The coach also said that the defeat from Wales affected the psychological state of the team.

“Lunin, Ignatenko, Popov, Sikan will play against Ireland tomorrow. Another player will play at Karavaev’s position tomorrow,” Petrakov said.

“If it was possible to replay the match against Wales, then I would not change anything.”

“Will there be a lot of roster changes compared to Wales? You’ll see tomorrow. Now there will be training, how can I answer.

“The defeat against Wales emotionally drained the team. I have individual conversations with the players, I try to smile, support the players, because I am the head coach and I can’t walk with my head down. What’s going on in my heart is my business. Should support the players and bring them out of this difficult psychological state. This is not the end of life. It’s already gone. You lived a day and you can’t return it, you turned the page, and you live like that. We must forget and move on. Tomorrow the game and everything can be fixed. This is a sport.”

“Those players who played on June 5 did not train yesterday, I gave them a rest. Now let’s look at their condition. Rotan did not call me and did not ask me to release the players for the match with France.

“We left the country on April 30th. They were not at home and worked for a month, made fees. The guys were not well prepared. That was hard. I love my country very much. I don’t like it anywhere – there is no better place on earth than Kyiv. I want to go home… Let’s have a rest, the guys will start training, but we don’t know how the situation will develop in the country, whether the UPL will play.”

Ukraine will play Ireland on June 8. The beginning is at 21:45 Kyiv time. The Irish have already played their first match in the Nations League, losing to Armenia (0:1).

Earlier, the team of Alexander Petrakov lost to Wales (0:1) in the playoff final of the 2022 World Cup qualification.
