The captain of the Ukrainian national football team in an interview with the British media spoke about the war in Ukraine.
The mindset of Ukrainians has changed a lot since the beginning of the Russian invasion. So says the captain of the Ukrainian team, Oleksandr Zinchenko. In addition, the player promised to tell his children in the future the whole truth about the war in Ukraine and the guilt of the Russians. The player also thanked the UK for the support given to our country during a difficult time.
“First of all, I want to thank the UK for all the support and help we are receiving in the most difficult time of our Independence. Of course, everyone is happy to see our fans who are in the UK and can come to the stadium for our game. I think it’s a special moment for us to see them after the match and thank them for their support even at this time when everyone is thinking about the war, when our army is doing an incredible job.
I think it is not easy to describe what each of us is feeling at this time. I would call it a year of horror because no one expected it to happen in 2022. I grew up in a world where everyone got along and worked together. Now I see all these things and I ask myself: “What is this for? Why are they doing this? To achieve what?” Many people are dying and suffering. You know, on both sides. I just asked “why?”.
My daughter is only 19 months old, she doesn’t understand anything, but I don’t know what parents say to older children. I don’t know how they explain it. I feel sorry for everyone who lost someone, lost their home. It’s really scary.
Thank God I didn’t lose anyone in my circle. Everything seems safe, but you never know what might happen. Most of my family members are in Ukraine and don’t want to leave the country. The mentality of these people is: “Why are we leaving our country? This is our territory, this is our home.” There is no one in Ukraine who will not be in this situation. Everyone there, can lose someone from their environment, home, property, job, anything. I think we’ve all changed our minds since the invasion started.
For myself, I can say that I want to educate my children and then explain to them what happened and who attacked. I don’t want to hear anything around me and my family about a terrorist country. They should know what happened and how many people died like that,” Zinchenko said in an interview with Channel 4.
Earlier, Zinchenko told how he tried to reach Russian football players after the start of the war.
