Disaster from the UAF: for 17 months, the national team of the country did not have a full-fledged head coach for 175 days

When it will appear is not known.

The opening match of the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament against England was one of the worst for the Ukrainian national team in history: not a single shot on target for the entire match, not a single shot on goal in the second half. Ruslan Rotan became the third mentor of the blue-and-yellows over the past year and a half.

We already wrote that the same England, Southgate has been in charge for more than seven years. We will not blame Rotan, who threw himself into the embrasure and agreed to close the management failures of the UAF – Ruslan Petrovich knew exactly what he was doing and only he knows why he made such a decision.

Perhaps the main question is: what’s next? Who will be the head coach of the team? Will he be at all? The UAF reports that a decision has already been made to negotiate with Rebrov. Association President Andrei Pavelko said that the national team has plans “B and C” in case they fail to agree with the ex-mentor of Dynamo. We do not know what agreements exist between the UAF and Rebrov and what conversations were held. But the passion with which Andrei Pavelko wants to get Rebrov surprises and resembles another PR campaign, and the situation with the coaches of the country’s main team over the past year and a half cannot be called anything other than a disaster, managerial chaos and impotence.

Just a chronology based on information from the official UFA website

On August 9, 2021, the Ukrainian Football Association confirmed that it did not renew the contract with Andriy Shevchenko and his coaching staff. (At the same time, Shevchenko himself wrote for the first time that his contract with the UAF ended on July 30, and the last match under his leadership, the Ukrainian national team played on July 3 against England, at Euro 2020.) On the appointment of Oleksandr Petrakov to the position of acting The head coach of the UAF national team was announced on August 18, 2021. It turns out that the main team of the country was without a coach for nine days.

On November 18, 2021, the UAF removed the prefix “acting” from Petrakov’s position, appointing him the head coach of the national team. In the status of “acting” he led the national team for 92 days.

Petrakov’s contract with the UAF, according to the official website of the Association, expired on December 30, 2022. The UAF announced the termination of the contract with the specialist on January 12. It turns out, 14 days Petrakov’s status was not clearbut, as agreed, we will take into account only official messages.

On February 28, the UAF announced the appointment of Ruslan Rotan as the acting head coach of the national team of the country. It turns out that the national team was without a nominal mentor for 47 days.

As of March 27, a new head coach of the Ukrainian national team has not yet been appointed. In other words, the main team of the country has been without a full-fledged head coach for 74 days.

Total: For 63 days in 17 months, the main team of the country was without a coach at all, for 175 days during this period the team was and is led by “acting”. In eight of the 16 matches that the national team played during this period, the team did not have a full-fledged head coach. Are you still waiting for successful results, consistency and good selection?
