Abramovich has sent documents to the UK and EU governments seeking to challenge sanctions against him

Old owner chelsea Roman Abramovich has sent documents to the EU and UK governments in which it plans to challenge the sanctions imposed on the businessman. This is reported by the British edition of The Times.

Due to the situation in Ukraine, Abramovich announced he was forced to put the London club up for sale and the UK then put the Chelsea owner on the sanctions list. The contractor’s assets in the country have been frozen. Later, the Premier League removed the Russian from managing the club due to his inclusion on the sanctions list.

According to a source citing Abramovich’s representatives, over the past 20 years the entrepreneur has paid £1.75 billion in UK tax. This fact means that the businessman paid more taxes in the UK and the EU than in Russia.

Abramovich’s lawyers in the EU documents say the sanctions against Russia are discriminatory, disproportionate and based on false allegations. Similar submissions were reportedly made to the British government. Abramovich believes that he should not be seen as the main sponsor of the Russian state.

At the end of May, Chelsea confirmed that they had reached a definitive agreement to sell the club to a consortium of American businessman Todd Bowley.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 for £140m. Since then, the London club have won the Premier League five times, won the Champions League and Europa League twice, won the FA Cup five times and the English League Cup three times. In February, the Blues won the Club World Cup.
