Athletistic/Football. Sports lawyer Mikhail Prokopets commented on the verdict of the Dutch court, which sentenced Yekaterinburg “Ural” striker Ray Vlut to two and a half years in prison.

Prokopets noted that in accordance with the labor legislation of the Russian Federation, the contract may be terminated if circumstances beyond the control of the parties have arisen, including the conviction of the employee and his dispatch to serve his sentence. The club has the right to terminate the contract in the presence of such circumstances.

Prokopets also noted that if the player appeals the court’s verdict, the decision will come into effect only after being reviewed by the appeals court. For now, termination of the contract will be illegal.

If a player has been found guilty of a criminal offense abroad and there is no extradition agreement between the countries in which he plays, it will not be a problem for him in Russia. However, the club may have problems with the image.

Accordingly, the decision to continue working with the player belongs to the Urals, but it can only be taken after the verdict has become final and has entered into force.
