In the near-top championships, the Ukrainian would be in the first roles
Forward Dnepr-1 Artem Dovbik scored a hat-trick in the 19th round of the UPL, coming on as a substitute. Now the striker of the Ukrainian national team has 15 goals in the current championship, which has already become the best in his career for a football player. But besides the goals, the influence that Dovbik has on the game of Dnepr-1 is also important, more precisely, his contribution to the results of the team. We compared the performance of the Ukrainian with the results of the best snipers of the leading world championships so far. Interesting conclusions have been made.
Let’s make a reservation right away: comparing Dovbik and the UPL with the stars and the best snipers of the big five championships, to put it mildly, is not entirely correct, then the next few tournaments that the UPL should focus on in the future, unfortunately, not the closest, are quite indicative in this regard. Especially if we take into account the rather substantive interest in the striker of the Ukrainian national team, for example, from Turkish clubs.
Premier League: Holland will not catch up
The Norwegian striker Manchester City is phenomenal. 28 goals scored, 33 effective actions for two thirds of the championship – a figure that is difficult to comprehend.
La Liga: Lewandowski keeps his mark
One of the best snipers in world football did not lower the bar even after moving to a new club and a new championship. The Pole has 17 league goals for Barcelona and it looks like he will finish the season as La Liga’s top scorer.
Serie A: Incredible Osimhen
Napoli are unstoppable in the Italian league, and its top scorer, Victor Osimhen, leads the snipers by a wide margin. Osimhen, like the whole Neapolitan team, is having an incredible season. Of course, he can’t keep up with Holland, but the performance is still impressive.
Bundesliga: The heyday of the Full Circle
Werder striker Niklas Fullkrug is leading in the current German championship scorer dispute. For the 30-year-old striker, this season is the best in his career. Excellent performance, a call to the German national team, participation in the World Cup and a goal for the Bundesteam at the World Cup. But in general, we note that compared to competitors, Bundesliga snipers do not score much.
Ligue 1: Canadian Phenomenon
In the French championship, where there is Messi, Neymar and Mbappe, one of the two first places in the scorer dispute is with the Canadian. Jonathan David from Lille scored 19 goals in Ligue 1, as did Mbappe. Most likely, David is unlikely to win the sniper dispute, but he certainly deserved interest from richer clubs.
And now the most interesting.
Türkiye
720 goals scored in 243 Turkish Super League matches
Average – 3 goals per match
Top scorer – Enner Valencia (Fenerbahce) – scored 26 goals and provided four assists in 21 games played
Average: 1.2 goals per game, 1.4 assists per game
Fenerbahce scored 63 goals in 25 matches in the Turkish championship
Average – 2.52 goals per match
Valencia have scored 41% of their team’s league goals
The 33-year-old ex-West Ham and Everton striker has been impressive this season. But at the same time, they are quite revealing, given the above arguments regarding the big five championships. Valencia have scored eight goals in 54 matches for West Ham and three in 21 matches for Everton. And in general, in terms of performance, this season is the best for the Ecuadorian.
Portugal
569 goals scored in 233 Portuguese Primeira matches
Average – 2.4 goals per match
The top scorers, Benfica representatives Goncalo Ramos and João Mario, scored 17 goals each. The latter has 6 more assists. Ramos spent 22 matches on 17 goals, Mario – 25
On average, Ramos has 0.77 goals per match, Mario has 0.68 goals and 0.92 effective actions per match
Benfica have scored 67 goals in 26 league games
Average – 2.6 goals per match
Ramos and Gonzalez each scored 25% of their team’s league goals
How a team does not depend on one striker is best demonstrated by Benfica Roger Schmidt. Two Orlov players at once top the ranking of the best snipers in Primeira. At the same time, Ramos and Mario scored the same number of two, and for two – about 50% of all the goals of their team.
Netherlands
725 goals scored in 242 matches for the Dutch Eredivia
Average – 3 goals per match
Top scorers – Utrecht’s Anastasios Duvikas and PSV’s Chavi Simnons – scored 13 goals each. The latter has 6 more assists. Duvikas spent 25 matches on 13 goals, Simons – 27
Duvikas averages 0.52 goals per match, Simons has 0.48 and 0.7 assists per match
PSV scored 71 goals in 27 matches (average 2.6 goals per match). Utrecht indicator – 42 goals (average – 1.56 per match)
Simons scored 18% of his team’s goals, Duvikas 30%
In the Dutch Eredivisie, everything is also approximately within the limits of statistical error. PSV’s Chavi Simons and Utrecht’s Anastasios Duvikas are holding onto 0.48 and 0.52 goals per match. At the same time, their influence on team goals is not too high. Simons scored less than 20% of all PSV’s goals, Duvikas scored 30% of Utrecht’s goals, which in general scores less than the leaders.
Belgium
830 goals scored in 278 Jupilé League matches
Average – 3 goals per match
Top scorer – Hugo Kuipers (Gent) – 18 goals and 4 assists in 29 games played
Kuipers averages 0.62 goals per game and 0.76 assists per game.
Gent scored 61 goals in 31 league games
Average – 1.97 goals per match
Kuipers averaged 30% of their team’s goals.
The situation is similar in the Belgian League Jupile. Hugo Kuipers from Gent has scored 30% of his team’s league goals and has an average of 0.62 goals per match.
Ukraine
276 goals were scored in 149 matches of the Ukrainian Premier League
Average – 2.5 goals per game
Top scorer – Artem Dovbik (Dnepr-1) – 15 goals and 2 assists in 18 games played
Dovbik averages 0.83 goals per match and 0.94 assists per match
Dnipro-1 scored 37 goals in the championship
Average – 2.05 goals per match
Dovbik averaged 40% of his team’s goals.
With Dovbik and UPL the situation is similar. True, we note that in terms of average effective action per match, Artem is inferior to Valencia, but it must be taken into account that Fenerbahce also scores much more than Dnipro-1 on average. But in terms of contribution to the results of the team, Dovbik and Valencia are on the same level, scoring 40% of all the goals of their clubs in the championship. But if in the case of the 33-year-old Valencia we are talking about his best season, then, judging by the dynamics of the Ukrainian, he still has a long way to go.
Plank Dovbik
This season has so far been the most successful in terms of scorer for the Dnipro-1 forward: Dovbik has not yet scored 15 goals in one championship. It is likely that this figure would have submitted to Artyom last season, when the striker “shot” 14 goals and 5 assists in 17 matches, but Russia’s full-scale and treacherous military invasion of Ukraine prevented, because of which the championship was not completed.
Something else is important. If you look at the results of Artem in the last five seasons, one can note the progress of the striker: in each new football year, Artem scores more than in the previous one.
Dovbik’s last five seasons in all competitions at club level
Season | goals | Assists | Matches |
2022/2023 | 20 | 5 | 27 |
2021/2022 | 14 | 5 | 18 |
2020/2021 | 10 | 1 | 27 |
2019/2020 | 4 | 1 | 27 |
2018/2019 | — | — | 6 |
The striker’s overall performance is also impressive – 142 matches, 55 goals and 12 assists. On average – 0.39 goals per game and 0.47 effective actions per match. And, by the way, the figures in the national team of the country are almost identical to the schedule: 6 goals and 2 assists in 15 matches played. On average – 0.4 goals per match and 0.5 effective actions per game. There are 12 rounds left until the end of the Premier League. Let’s see what indicators Artem will finish the season with.
