Famous ex-Russian footballer Ruslan Adzhindzhal told in an interview with how he refused to go to CSKA as promised to the coach Boris Ignatiev sign a contract with Torpedo‑ZIL.
Ruslan Adzhindzhal, together with his brother Beslan, moved to Torpedo-ZIL from Baltika Kaliningrad in 2000. He played for the Moscow club until 2001. Then the team coach was Ignatiev. Ajinjal ended his career in 2015.
– You had a choice where to go – to CSKA or Torpedo-ZIL. Why not in the army camp, even if Oleg Dolmatov, who was familiar to you, worked there?
– It so happened that Beslan and I gave the floor to Boris Petrovich Ignatiev, they say, we will switch to Torpedo-ZIL, we will sign a contract. In the end, we went there quietly. After a while they started calling us from CSKA, inviting us. However, I must say that we have already promised and we cannot do otherwise. In the army club, they persuaded us for a long time, urged us not to worry.
– You told how the Chechen leadership of CSKA did not give up and tried to play on national feelings, and then you stopped picking up the phone. Wasn’t that scary?
– Beslan and I explained our position to them and managed to do what we wanted at that time. That’s all. We gave our word. Impossible to break it. If CSKA’s offer had come earlier, everything would have been completely different. And then they almost signed a contract with Torpedo, and suddenly there is an option with the army team. But there was nothing more we could do,” Adzhindzhal told .
