Lapochkin called the idea of Spartak to invite a foreign referee to the Russian Super Cup match strange

Arbitrator Sergei Lapochkin Jr. said he considers the initiative “Spartacus at the invitation to the match for the Russian Supercup from a strange foreign referee.

“I think it’s a strange idea, because we have enough qualified referees in Russia,” Lapochkin told RB Sport. “And we are not the kind of country that needs foreign judges.

– And in such a difficult situation that has unfolded in recent months, is it unlikely that someone will go to Russia with optimism?

– No, I’m sure any foreign referee will be happy to come and work in our league, and the current situation will not affect that. I repeat, I don’t see any point in it, because we have our own good guys who have judged top European matches before.

– In the mid-2000s, there was already an experience in Russia with the invitation of foreign referees. You have already judged then – how did you perceive this situation, perhaps did you manage to gain experience?

Of course, I remember it well. I didn’t work in the Premier League at the time, I refereed in the Premier League. Then, it was perceived as a curiosity… Even if the majority was against this practice. Because if they come to show quality, that’s one thing. But they were no better than our referees. Absolutely nothing. And with the participation of foreign referees, there were also several scandals, we remember. So I don’t think it’s been a very good experience. Even then, we had a host of good referees. But we tried this practice, quickly gave it up – and, I think, it’s not just that more than 15 years have passed and it hasn’t picked up again. So I think it’s a completely pointless story.

Spartak will start the season with a match for the Russian Supercup against Zenit Saint Petersburg, the date and place of the meeting not yet being determined.
