The International Football Federation (FIFA) will exclude the national team Ecuador among the participants of the 2022 World Cup due to the midfielder’s falsification of documents Byron Castillo according to tvazteca.com.
World football’s governing body opened disciplinary proceedings against Castillo in May following a complaint from the Chilean Football Federation. The Chilean team believe the midfielder was actually born in Colombia and is three years older than his official age. The Federation asked to deprive the team of Ecuador of six points in the direct confrontations of the teams during the qualification for the World Cup (0-0, 0-2).
Eduardo Carlesso’s lawyer, representing the interests of Chile, told a press conference that he had proof that Castillo’s birth certificate was fake, since he was not born in Ecuador , as he claimed, but in Tumaco (Colombia).
– The parents were married in Tumaco, Byron was born and baptized in Tumaco. The idea is to present in a fairly clear and transparent way all the arguments and documents we have. He who speaks the truth cannot be afraid,” Carlesso said.
If the arguments of the Chilean federation are accepted, FIFA will deprive the Ecuadorian team of points in eight matches of the qualifying tournament in which Castillo took part. In this case, the team will become a participant in the 2022 World Cup Chile .
FIFA is expected to rule on the case on June 10.
