Honorary President of the Crimean Football Academy, ex-head of the Crimean Football Union Yuriy Vetokha admitted that the player of the Ukrainian national team Andrei Yarmolenko may be under pressure in the country after a bad game with the Wales team.
National team Ukraine was beaten by the national team Wales in the final qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup with a score of 0:1. Yarmolenko scored an own goal and failed to convert a number of dangerous chances.
“We have already said that politics has interfered in all sports affairs lately, and some expected something similar from this meeting,” Vetokha told a correspondent. – It also didn’t work out, my colleagues and I were now discussing the commentators’ cries about Russia and the fact that football was never there. All of these messages, including those from Ukrainian football officials at UEFA and FIFA, do not paint the game itself. There is a lot to be said here, but in the end, the main thing is the result. And the result – the Ukrainian team will not be at the World Cup.
– Do you think that Yarmolenko can cope with hatred at home? There is too much negativity in this country.
“You know, I expect everything from this country and I won’t be surprised by anything. These rabid nationalists are capable of anything. Also, now we have learned that Yarmolenko is from Leningrad. They’re looking for witches and orcs, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Yarmolenko is included in this list.
Wales have qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1958. At the tournament, to be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, the team will play in Group B, which previously included teams from England, Iran and the United States.
