The South American team was caught in the forgery and will now no longer play in the World Cup.
The Ecuador national team will be disqualified and deprived of the right to play in this year’s World Cup. This decision was made by FIFA. This was reported by the publication Mundo Deportivo.
The official disqualification is expected to be announced tomorrow, June 10. The place of the Ecuadorians in the World Cup from South America will be taken by Chile.
It will be recalled that immediately after the end of the qualifying tournament, the Chileans announced fraud on the part of the Ecuadorian team. According to them, the player of this team – the defender Byron Castillo, is actually a Colombian and has no right to play for the national team abroad. After that, FIFA announced the start of an investigation into the incident.
So far, 30 teams have been identified to participate in the World Cup in Qatar. The tournament itself will be held from November 21 to December 18.
