Athletistic / Football Spanish AS journalist Jose Antonio Espina has spoken about Guillermo Abascal’s decision to manage Spartak Moscow.

“This news really surprised us in Spain. Abascal still had two years left on his contract with Basel. On the one hand, Russian clubs will not be able to participate in European competition. On the other hand, Russia has a good league, and Spartak Moscow is a club with a great history that has played an important role both in Russia and in Europe. But still this decision was very surprising,” Espina said as quoted by Gazeta.Ru.

Recall that Abascal was appointed interim head coach of Switzerland “Basel” in February 2022. Under his command, the team, in which Russian striker Fedor Chalov plays, won the silver medals of the Swiss championship.

Also, the Spanish specialist led the Greek “Volos”, the Italian “Ascoli” and the Swiss “Chiasso” and “Lugano”.

Today we learn that Guillermo Abascal has replaced Paolo Vanoli as Spartak’s head coach. Under the leadership of the Italian, the Red-Whites took 10th place in the RPL and won the Russian Cup.
