Shakhtar proposed the UPL format with division into groups after the first round, but other clubs refused

The format assumed holding 24-28 matches instead of 30

Miner proposed to hold the next championship Ukrainian Premier League in a new format, according to journalist Sergei Bolotnikov.

The miners considered the option of dividing the teams into two groups after the first round:

  • All 16 teams play the first round, after which two groups were to be formed: the top 6 and the remaining 10 teams
  • Teams from the top 6 play two laps, the other ten play one
  • Two leaders compete for the championship in a series up to two wins
  • The fifth and sixth teams play the last ticket to European competitions with the seventh and eighth
  • The last two teams are relegated, the 13th and 14th play transitional matches with the teams of the First League

Shakhtar proposed this format, since it is difficult to hold 30 rounds of the championship in the current conditions, given the late start of the season (August 20) and the World Cup, which starts in November. In addition, due to the winter world cup, the autumn matches of European competitions will be held more intensively.

Shakhtar’s format assumed 24-28 matches in the championship, but the rest of the Premier League clubs decided to hold the championship in two rounds.

The start of the new season in the Ukrainian championship is tentatively scheduled for August 20. The option of holding matches on the territory of Ukraine and Poland is being considered.
