The TV company will not renew the contract with the Ukrainian championship next season.

Setanta Sports announced that it will not renew the contract with the Ukrainian Premier League. At the same time, the TV company promised to fulfill the current agreement in full until the end of the season.

The main reason for the termination of cooperation was the refusal of some championship teams to transfer the right to broadcast their matches.

“Setanta Sports is an international broadcaster operating in 15 countries in Europe and Asia. In difficult times for the country, we continue to support Ukraine, fans and our customers by investing in the development of the sports industry.

Thanks to the clubs who transferred the rights and supported Setanta Sports and the UPL in the attempt to create a pool. However, as part of a league agreement, Setanta Sports was unable to fully utilize the media rights: some clubs did not transfer the rights to the UPL to broadcast the matches they organized and played.

Due to the above, Setanta Sports has decided not to renew its agreement with UPL, but remains open to partnerships. We are ready to discuss new terms of cooperation based on fairness and compliance with all terms of league regulations and laws of Ukraine.

We are confident that a compromise will be found where all parties will be satisfied with the agreement. As we mentioned, Setanta Sports is broadcast in 15 countries. And we will continue to popularize UPL clubs and their players far beyond the borders of Ukraine, if we can reach the appropriate agreements.

All obligations under the UPL agreement will be fulfilled by Setanta Sports in full before the end of the season,” the broadcaster said in a statement.

Remember that initially Setanta Sports’ Premier League contract was for 3 years. Rukh, Metalist, Dynamo, Zarya and Dnepr-1 refused to fulfill the terms of the contract. The matches of these teams are broadcasted on 1+1 Media resources.
