Third anti-doping rule violation in the pre-Olympic reporting period
Ukrainian weightlifter Alina Marushchak passed a positive banned substance test hydrochlorothiazide.
Testing, during which a diuretic was detected, was carried out on March 10. In early April, the athletes notified the Weightlifting Federation of Ukraine about the temporary suspension.
The failed Marushchak test became the third case of violations for the Ukrainian team in the pre-Olympic reporting period from July 23, 2021 to July 25, 2024. Recall that the previously banned substance trimetazidine was found in the samples of weightlifters Ruslan Kozhakin and Bogdan Taranenko. If in all three cases the athletes are awarded a standard four-year ban, according to the licensing rules Ukraine risks lose part or all of the weightlifting quotas for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Maruschak became the champion of Europe and the world in the weight category up to 81 kilograms. The athlete was announced for the European Championship 2023 in Yerevan, but did not take part in the tournament.
