Cortes: It’s very interesting to play in the Nations League. I hope that the Ukrainian team will be able to show their best game

Head coach Ukrainian women’s football team Luis Cortez commented on the results of the draw League of Nations.

“We got difficult opponents like Poland and Serbia. These are the strongest teams. They are playing good matches, especially Serbia, who beat Germany 3-2 a few months ago. Poland also constantly proves its high prowess thanks to top players like Eva Pajor and Paulina Dudek. In turn, Greece is a team from the fourth pot, but they have a very good coach, and the players of the Greek national team are improving every day, showing good results.”

“We are satisfied with the results of the draw. It’s very exciting to play in the Nations League, the new competition created by UEFA for women’s football. I believe that this is a very correct decision for the development of women’s football throughout Europe. We are ready to play against all these teams. We hope to do well in September when the tournament starts.”

“I hope that the Ukrainian team will be able to show their best game. The level of European teams is growing, so all the matches will be very demanding, but we must be ambitious and ready to beat anyone. The girls are very motivated to play their best in the Nations League and we must not forget that the results of this tournament will also determine the teams participating in Euro 2025.”

In League B group, the Ukrainians will play against the national teams of Poland, Serbia and Greece. Based on the results of the group stage, four participants in the final stage will be determined, which will simultaneously become the selection stage for the 2024 Olympics. In parallel, the participants in the play-offs for promotion / relegation in the class before the Euro 2025 qualification will be determined.

The group stage of the League of Nations will take place from 20 September to 5 December. The final stage and play-offs are scheduled from 21 to 28 February 2024.
