The Portuguese coach said that the Ukrainian did not fit into the philosophy of his team
Roma head coach Jose Mourinho said that he did not plan to buy a Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko during leadership Chelsea.
“At Chelsea, Shevchenko was not my first choice. I asked for another player and I know that at that time the club did everything to get me the players I wanted. But this was not possible for various reasons.”
“And when Shevchenko was offered to me, I agreed, because he is undoubtedly a quality player. In Milan he was like a prince, but in Chelsea our philosophy was different, we didn’t have princes,” Mourinho said.
Shevchenko played at Chelsea from 2006 to 2009. As part of the Londoners, the Ukrainian striker won the FA Cup and the English League Cup.
Mourinho has led Chelsea twice. This season, the Portuguese specialist is with Roma in sixth place in Serie A.
