Malafeev said he has signed up for coaching courses and is considering getting an ‘A’ category license

Former Zenit and Russian national team goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev in an interview with , he said he planned to get a Category A coaching license and had already signed up for coaching courses.

Malafeev spent his entire playing career at Zenit, which he ended in 2016. In November 2017, he was appointed as Zenit’s deputy sporting director for general affairs. In May 2020, he left the club.

– Nothing specific connects me to football now. But I will lift the veil – I will attend coaching courses for football players who have achieved certain results in the Russian team and in our championship. Courses are designed for one and a half years, at the end of which you get category “A”.

You ended your career in 2016. Why did you decide to study as a coach only now?

– In principle, I have a passion for learning, a desire to know and what is interesting. This proposal seemed interesting to me. Plus – the opportunity to meet the guys with whom they played against each other or together in the national team. And finally, who knows, maybe the great experience of being a footballer and a coach, as well as the coaching category, will establish a new vector in my life, related specifically to football.

Thinking of becoming a coach?

– There are no details yet, but intuitively I think it’s the right decision. I am 44 years old and I am open to new approaches. Everything I have already accumulated in terms of knowledge is one hundred percent applicable to the sport, Malafeev told .
