Head coach of the youth team of Ukraine U-21 Ruslan Rotan talked about preparing for the match with Armenia in Euro 2023 qualification.
Today’s match will be the last for the Ukrainian youth team in the selection for the continental championship. After him, the team of Ruslan Rotan will play in the playoffs for access to the Euro.
– Ruslan Petrovich, how will you set up the team for a game that does not have a tournament value?
We talked with the guys about this topic. And everyone came to the conclusion that the result in the upcoming match is important for us, since the Ukrainian national team is waiting for playoff matches, so we really want to end the group stage on a positive note and at the same time show high-quality football, which is what we always strive for.
Every victory of any Ukrainian team supports our soldiers. The brother of one of our football players is on the front line. The guys watched some of our matches in very difficult conditions. They are worried, and we are worried about the Ukrainian fighters, and positive results in the international arena, I hope, add to their mood.
– Should we expect a large-scale rotation in the composition?
– Yes. Our games are held in two days on the third, so many guys feel tired. But this in no way means that we have the first and second composition. Today will play the composition that must complete the task.
– Did you have time to analyze the last match with France or did you concentrate more on preparing for the game with Armenia?
There is very little time yet to draw any conclusions. We had a difficult flight to Yerevan, recovery, so now all thoughts are only about the upcoming meeting.
– You said that the French gave their T-shirts to our team …
– Yes. We gave them to the guys, and they will send these gifts to charity to support the Ukrainian army.
– The duel with Armenia, as you have already said, is very important for you. Despite this, are you slowly looking at possible playoff opponents?
“We are aware of the matter, but we do not want to concentrate on it yet. Be that as it may, no matter who gets into our rivals, it is necessary to win.
