‘I understood that my days at the club were numbered’ – Pyatibratov on Fakel’s departure

Former head coach “Torches” Dmitri Pyatibratov told Sport24 that the defeat of “Orenburg” became a key moment, after which it was decided to dismiss him from the Voronezh club.

On April 22, Fakel lost to Orenburg with the score of 1: 3, on April 28, Fakel beat Dynamo – 2: 0. Pyatibratov was dismissed on April 30, after working at the club for 2.5 years.

How and when did you learn of the resignation?

– Everything was known even before the game against Dynamo. The defeat at Orenburg became decisive. After him, I initiated a meeting with Roman Guramovich [Асхабадзе]. We both understood that the adaptation process was delayed. The situation had to be changed. The spring results were not very good, and I realized that my days at the club were numbered. We had to beat Khimki and Akhmat. Draws are not the result we could settle for in the last part of the championship. Plus the Orenburg defeat, which I have already mentioned. We had a frank male conversation. I will never hide behind circumstances. I’m not ashamed of my job. Could I do better – probably, yes. At this meeting we agreed between the lines that I would leave Fakel after the game against Dynamo. Well, victory over Dynamo is something like “When you go, go, but it’s beautiful.”

– In the mixed zone after the win over Dynamo, you, passing by Fakel defender Igor Kalinin, made eye contact and both of them smiled. What did that mean?

– Kalinin said before the game in front of the whole team: “Coach, we will definitely win! I am responsible for my words.” After the match, I showed him with my eyes that he is a real man who keeps his promises.

After 25 rounds, MIR RPL Fakel is in 14th place in the table with 21 points.
