Ex-goalkeeper of Alexandria and Metalist 1925 Zarubin joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Former goalkeeper serves in the National Guard

Former goalkeeper of Alexandria and Metalist 1925 Ruslan Zarubin spoke about his decision to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, this decision was inspired by Yuri Vernidub.

“It seems to me that few people have the desire to fight. It’s more of a duty. I decided for myself that if I can help with something, then I need to go and help. In any case, it was a conscious decision that came from within. I never imagined myself as a military man, but when you see how very young guys or people like Yuri Nikolayevich Vernidub are fighting, you can’t stay away, ”said Zarubin.

“I never served. Moreover, I never even held a weapon in my hands – there was no such thrust. At school, of course, there were DPY lessons, like everyone else. But we didn’t do anything serious. Unless they learned how to put on a gas mask and dismantled the machine gun a couple of times. But nothing – you quickly learn in the war.

“On May 11, I was already in the unit. For two weeks we completed the course of a young fighter, after which we went to our places of deployment. This is the National Guard. Those who have a desire can get in without problems. Of course, if there are any serious health problems, they may not be accepted, but otherwise you can.

Zarubin ended his football career last year. The last club of the goalkeeper was Victoria from Nikolaevka.

Ukraine continues to resist the aggression of the Russian Federation for 109 days.
