At El Teniente de Rancagua, Luca Marcogiuseppe’s team beat the Bolivians 2-0, with goals from Sosa and Ríos. The Italians still haven’t lost after Manuel Fernández’s departure and were in second place in Group E, overtaking Santos on goal difference.
Since Manuel Fernández left the bank, italian audax is going through a more promising stage of the season. Tonight, the Florida team won again, this time for Group E of the Copa Sudamericana. In Rancagua they beat Blooming of Bolivia 2-0 and are in contention for, at least, the playoffs to continue in the tournament race.
It was not only the first time that the two teams faced each other in a Conmebol competition, but it was also the first time for Luca Marcogiuseppe at the helm of Audax in the international concert. Faced with the last team in the Bolivian championship (eight points in 11 games), the Chilean team had to add against the rival, a priori, weaker in the area.
From the start of the match, the tanos had control of the ball. The Santa Cruz de la Sierra club made do with a strategy of waiting and betting on the counter-attack. During the first half, Audax had the set ball as a tool to hunt down the sky blue goal, but he was only able to take advantage late in the period. In general, the initial 45′ delivered little emotion in the zones.
The first clear chance for the Greens came after 26 minutes, when a Gabriel Hachen shot was parried from the goal line after the Argentine eluded goalkeeper Uraezaña. Then, at 29′, it was Michael Fuentes who missed out, after the goal of the visit had been bailed out.
The Floridians have always been closer to converting than their Santa Cruz rivals. Half an hour into the game, they found the opposite fence thanks to mixed midfielder Fernando Juárez, who grabbed a rebound from the goalkeeper and defined with the free arc. However, the goal was ruled out after the VAR review due to the Argentine’s obvious forward position.
Audax Italiano, offensively, was more than Blooming, but lacked the last to find the goal. At the end of the first half, the score was 1-0. Hachen’s corner kick and Gonzalo Sosa wins from above to open the scoring. It was just because of the greater weight in attack that the national team showed.
The celestial team, which is struggling in its local championship, was arriving little by little. However, with each approach, he ran into Tomás Ahumada, Audinos’ good keeper. He responded whenever he was required.
Fortunately for Audax, in the complement it managed to widen the gap against the discreet workforce of Santa Cruz. At 67′, the trans-Andean Gonzalo Ríos scores a superb goal, with a shot from outside the area. The player had time to get comfortable and place the ball on Uraezaña’s stretch. The 2-0 was a more justified reflection of the superiority of the Italians.
After the second goal, Marcogiuseppe made changes in order to balance his strength, keeping an eye on the national championship, where he must also score. In the same way, the evolution of the match gave a small air of celebration, because perfectly well Audax Italiano could register another goal, an element which could be determining for the classification. Blooming finished with 10 due to the dismissal of Venezuelan Figuera in the 84th minute.
With this victory, Audax is in second place in the group with four points and a goal difference of 1. He has the same score as Santos, but Peixe has a difference of 0. For now, the Chileans would go to the playoffs against one-third of the Libertadores. The leader in Zone E is Newell’s, with nine.
