Andrei ended his career in the national team at around 102 matches
Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov spoke about his last match with national team of Ukraine, in which the blue-yellows defeated Armenia with a score of 3:0. According to him, the decision to leave the national team has been brewing for a long time.
“It always hurts to say goodbye, but I was ready. I understand that we have a very strong team. I have been making this decision for a long time, but thanks to Alexander Vasilyevich, I postponed it for a year, played 100 matches. Thank him for this opportunity. I said goodbye to the team very nicely,” Pyatov said.
“Injury? In training before Ireland, my leg went and my knee crunched. I did tests and the doctor said that a three-week pause was needed. But I asked him if I could get together for one match – he said yes, if I inject painkillers. I thank our doctors for putting me on my feet before this important match for me and for Ukraine.”
“Speech at the stadium? It was a surprise. However, when you speak without preparation, you are speaking from the heart. I didn’t feel very comfortable, but I said what was on my mind. True, not all, but did not want to detain the guys. They were hot, they ran 90 minutes. I thanked everyone and said the most important thing: “Now I am the most ardent fan.” I believe in them, they are a big friendly family. I love them.”
“It is impossible to convey these emotions. My psychologist friend helped me a lot. She advised to quit. Therefore, today I was completely concentrated during the warm-up, and when the final whistle sounded, emotions went.
“Malinovsky took over the game in the 90+3 minute, beat two, then cut himself off and we almost got a goal. He says, “Sorry, sorry.” I almost… well that ends well.”
Pyatov played 102 matches for the Ukrainian national team. Andrei was the main goalkeeper of the national team at three European Championships.
