Lomachenko previously refused to call Russia an aggressor
Former world champion in three divisions Vasily Lomachenko spoke about a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“You cannot do anything when war comes to your country and your home. This is wrong, it seems to me. I was just trying to protect my family, my home and our country. This is a very simple solution for people who love their country.”
“You don’t think about your four belts, about the absolute championship. Now I think about what will happen when my children grow up. Where will they be and who. Now this is part of my goal,” Lomachenko said.
Lomachenko has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to the UOC-MP on social networks. Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier and public figure Yevgeny Karas, as well as the chief of staff of the Azov regiment Bogdan Krotevich, announced the “recruitment” of Lomachenko. Vasily was supported by Ukrainian boxer Ivan Redkach.
The boxer on social networks has repeatedly published a video interview with the Metropolitan of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate Longin. In the course of his monologues, Longin says that “Ukraine has started a war against God, the Church of the Lord and the Ukrainian people.”
Last summer, Lomachenko published a video interview with Metropolitan Luka of Zaporozhye and Melitopol for the BBC Russian service, who claimed that Ukrainians deserved the bombing by the Russian army. Lomachenko was also seen in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
Lomachenko has previously refused to call Russia an aggressor. After the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, the boxer joined the ranks of the territorial defense of Belgorod-Dnestrovsky.
Vice-President of the League of Professional Boxing of Ukraine Alina Shaternikova stated that Vasyl has been a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of a full-scale war.
The full-scale war between Ukraine and Russia continues for the 440th day.
