This Monday, the 13th, Australia and Peru faced each other for a place in the 2022 World Cup. In a little busy duel during the 90 minutes, Australia even managed to pressure and created the best chance of attack, only at 43 of the second half. With none of the teams giving up spaces to the opponent, the game went to extra time and then to penalties, where the Australians confirmed the victory and classification!
RANKS:
AUSTRALIA: Ryan; Atkinson, Wright, Rowles and Behich; Mooy; Boyle, Hrustic, Irvine and Leckie; Duke // PERU: Gallese; Advícula, Zambrano, Callens and Trauco; Tapia and Pena; Carrillo, Cueva and Gonzales; Lapadula.
CHANNEL – ATHLETISTIC:
THE GAME!
The match started with Australia going on top and, after just three minutes, Wright made a direct link to Duke up front, Zambrano fumbled and the Australian landed a dangerous shot that passed to the right of Gallese’s goal. Peru responded in the next move, when Advíncula advanced down the right, took it to the baseline and crossed to Lapadula, who anticipated the defense and headed over the goal.
At seven minutes, Hrustic was partially disarmed by Tapia and the ball ended up remaining in the edge of the area. Who arrived to define was Duke, who risked the finalization, but the ball went through the left side of the goal. Then, at 16, Mooy took a corner from the right, Irvine appeared between the defenders, but headed over the goal. Australia pressure!
Despite the chances created at the beginning, the first half of the game was very bad to watch in Doha. Australia even played better, pressured and risked shots from outside the area, which did not have good results. While the team from Peru, in turn, visibly very nervous, even supported by their fans (who attended in weight) did not manage to perform well. 0-0 at the end of the first half!

In the second half, the rhythm followed the same. With the place for the World Cup at stake, both teams did not want to take risks and ended up not opening spaces that could be exploited by the opponent. During the final stage, the coaches made some changes to try to give the teams more breath.
In the 39th minute, Behich made a great move by making a line cut from the left to close to the half-moon and, with space, risked the placed shot that passed close to the left post of Gallese. The best chance of the game came in the 43rd minute, when Mabil appeared on the left after a beautiful pass by Irvine. In the back of the field, the winger played for the middle looking for MacLaren, who finished weakly and stopped in defense of the Peruvian goalkeeper.
Add big chances to win it late, but not to be… so far.

EXTENSION
In the first half of extra time, both teams were exhausted and created very little, implying that they were just waiting for penalties. However, at the beginning of the second half of extra time, Peru went up and almost managed to open the scoring.

At first, Flores charged from the left, invaded the area leading to the baseline and rolled to Cueva, who arrived hitting, at first, but sent to the right of the goal. In the next move, Gonzáles lifted the ball in the area, where Flores managed to climb more than the mark, tested firmly and stamped the left post of goalkeeper Ryan.
Still in the fourth minute, Advíncula carried the ball from the right to the middle and, left-handed, risked the shot from afar, but ended up sending it over the Australian goal. The remainder of the second half was marked by substitutions, mainly Cueva, who had to leave the field on a stretcher, and goalkeeper Ryan, who gave way to Andrew Redmayne, chosen to defend the goal in penalties.
