Barbieri counters boos and offenses after defeat to Santos

The phase is not the best for Vasco in the Brasileirão, and the team from Rio added its fifth consecutive game without winning in the Brasileirão

O Basque was defeated by saints in the last round of Brasileirão and it was enough to arouse great dissatisfaction in the Cruzmaltina fans. The team received Peixe in São Januário last Sunday, the 14th, and the black and whites from Vila Belmiro won with the score of 1 to 0. After the game, Mauricio Barbieri gave a press conference and had to talk about the attitude of the Vasco fans .

The theme became a subject in the press room, as the coach and the athletes were the target of several criticisms, mainly after Santos’ winning goal. Many appeared as notes and calling the Cruzmaltino cast a mercenary, in addition to other slightly heavier offenses. Other than that, the resounding boos were also protagonists during Vasco’s defeat in the Brasileirão.

During the press conference, Mauricio Barbieri avoided clashing with the fans. He highlighted the “hostile” environment of São Januário, which can be beneficial for Vasco, but can also weigh against the squad itself. Therefore, he hopes that the team will be able to demonstrate strength to recover and win again in the Brasileirão, since it has not managed to do so for five games.

It is even written on the walls of the stadium: “São Januário is a hostile environment”. And at times the environment is more hostile to us than to our opponents. But we are only going to reverse this with positive results. It’s keeping our focus, concentration, on what we can do, which is to seek positive results in here and, for sure, the environment will come back in our favor“, he stated.

Still questioned about the boos, Barbieri highlighted that the same feeling of the fan, the Cruzmaltino cast also has: “It’s not something that will keep me awake at night. I understand that cry and I think it’s legitimate and translates a feeling, which is one of frustration and shared between us. Maybe he responds differently and it’s not up to me to judge, but to have empathy for what he feels and would like him to understand that the feeling here is the same“.
