Italy’s economy minister says Juventus shouldn’t have points deducted for possible financial irregularities

Italian Economy and Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said he would not take off Juventus points in the Serie A table in connection with allegations of wage fraud.

Earlier, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said it had scheduled a new sporting trial against Juventus over alleged irregularities in player payments due to ‘wage manoeuvres’. The club have also been accused of inappropriate dealings with agents and other teams. In January, Juventus were fined 15 Serie A points for financial fraud. It was found that the club had committed to overestimating the transfer value of its players to increase its capital. Later, the Board of Sports Guarantees of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) partially upheld the club’s appeal and referred the case to a higher court for review. The club were temporarily dropped 15 points in the Serie A standings. Later, reports emerged that the FIGC had every right to reopen the case after receiving new evidence and deprive the Torino side of 9 points in the national championship.

– From an economic point of view, if Juventus have filed a false report, then why should points be deducted from them? I would confiscate their stadium because they are the only team to have built their own arena, it would cause economic damage to them. The whole system needs to be redesigned, because there is a mess, – quotes Giorgetti Football Italia.
