Pyatov: I would like the championship to be played in a fair fight in the remaining rounds, and the judges would not interfere with this

Experienced goalkeeper spoke in favor of “fair football”

Goalkeeper and captain of Donetsk Miner Andriy Pyatov commented on the situation with the arbitration of the championship of Ukraine and the influence of the VAR system on the decisions of the referee during the matches.

“Of course, VAR helps to avoid controversial situations in the field and significantly improves the quality of refereeing. Remember how many controversial, dubious penalty kicks have been awarded without VAR lately. But VAR does not solve all problems. There are episodes that we see on the field, but let’s just say that the work of VAR does not apply to them.

“For example, yesterday the decision of the referee Yuriy Ivanov attracted attention, who, in the 80th minute of the match Dnipro-1 – Kolos, with a score of 1: 1, appointed a free kick in the penalty area of Kolos towards the goal of the team from Kovalivka for delaying time by the goalkeeper. I have been in football for over 20 years. As a goalkeeper, I was outraged by this decision.

“Referees are loyal to the six-second rule – you can find several such episodes in every match. Sometimes they prompt: “Introduce the ball!” And here the referee out of the blue with a draw at the very right time created a scoring chance for Dnipro-1. It seems that the referee was waiting, looking for this episode, took advantage of the rules and created a scoring chance for Dnipro-1. It was not the Dnieper-1 who created it, but the arbitrator.”

“This, if I am not mistaken, is the same referee who, a few rounds ago, awarded a strange penalty against Ingulets in a match with the same Dnepr-1 and also with a draw. I’m not saying that violations should be ignored – rules are rules. But such violations are recorded once every ten years. And when this is done in a championship race in favor of a team that claims to win the championship, with a draw with 10 minutes before the end of the match, it causes outrage.

“As you can see, in such moments, VAR does not help the referee to make adequate decisions. I would like the championship to be played in the remaining rounds in a fair fight, and the judges would not interfere with this.”

Recall that Shakhtar CEO Serhiy Palkin spoke about the club’s decision to purchase two cars with the VAR system for the Ukrainian Premier League.

Shakhtar are leading the UPL, two points ahead of Dnipro-1 three rounds before the end of the season. On May 24, the Pitmen will play with Zorya, while Dnipro-1 will host Vorskla.
