The Disciplinary Committee of the Salvadoran Football Federation imposed sanctions on the club “Alliance” after the lightning strike at the Cuscatlán stadium.
The tragedy occurred on May 20 during the quarter-final return of the Country Cup between the Allianos and the FAS club.
Earlier it became known that as a result of the stampede killed at least 12 people. Another 90 people suffered various injuries.
The federation’s press service reports that FAS was named the winner of the game with a score of 2-0, and the Alliance is forced to play home games without spectators for a year. The club was also fined $30,000, which must be paid by July 21, 2023.
It should be noted that the members of the board of directors of the Alliance and the general manager of the club are deprived of the right to carry out any football-related activity for a period of one year.
One of the reasons for the incident is the sale of counterfeit tickets. As a result, fans tried to force their way into the stadium. A number of media outlets also note that the police used tear gas, which added to the panic and stampede.
