Almost three thousand people from the sports society of Ukraine are at the front
Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and President of the NOC Vadim Gutzeit said that almost 300 Ukrainian athletes and coaches died in the war with Russia.
“293 athletes, coaches and physical culture workers died in this war … With faith in victory and our defenders, we are waiting for the return of almost three thousand of our colleagues who are now defending the interests of the state as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard. We sincerely rejoice to everyone who returned from captivity.
Recall that the winner of the 2018 Youth Olympics in boxing Maxim Galinichev died at the front, defending Ukraine from Russian aggression. Also near Bakhmut, a Ukrainian athlete, European vice-champion in MMA Eduard Kostritsa and a Ukrainian cyclist, a member of the Leader Citroen Team Konstantin Deneka, died.
In the battles for Soledar, master of sports in mountaineering Alexander Zakolodny and candidate for master of sports in rock climbing Grigory Grigoriev died.
Early on the morning of February 24, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has been going on for 454 days.
