Former Russian national team head coach Boris Ignatiev shared his opinion on the midfielder’s contract extension Dmitry Barinov With “locomotive ”, noting that the player will work out the new agreement in full.
The railway announced the extension of the contract with Barinov on May 24. The new agreement is valid until 2026.
– Dmitry Barinov extended the contract with Lokomotiv. How was this news received?
– The club has long relied on the fact that its captain and team manager should play. Probably, they were waiting if certain steps would follow from him and if there would be a desire to leave somewhere, then they would immediately enter into negotiations with him. Lokomotiv relies on him a lot. There are two rounds left in the championship, and if Dmitry tried to change the team, they would look for new candidates for the future for his position. And the club knew he would stay, since we haven’t seen anyone new, and probably considered the nuances of his future contract.
The contract was extended for three years. Not very long?
– Lokomotiv expects Dmitry to be needed. He is his, locomotive. In order not to destroy the continuity, a long-term contract is concluded with him. I think he’ll make the most of it. And if things don’t work out for him, they’ll part ways amicably. Then they will sell it somewhere and return the money spent.
– There is no option in the contract for a takeover by Russian or European clubs. Do you see any risks for Lokomotiv?
– It will then be easier to sell if things don’t work out for him. But I think everything is calculated here. More importantly, management is looking towards the near future. Now it is necessary. And it is not always possible to search that long,” Evro‑Futbol.Ru said, citing Ignatiev.
Barinov, who has played for the Lokomotiv main team since 2015, is the captain of the railway workers. For Lokomotiv, he played 182 games in which he scored eight goals and provided 12 assists. Together with the team, Dmitry became the champion of Russia in the 2017/2018 season.
